Those pipes are clinging to you like liquor to a bum.

Nice job none the less.

Is that a custom texture on the bottom of those walls? Because it looks to me like those bumps would not be sticking out like that.

It's probably just the way the lighting is affecting the normal maps.

In this case, the lighting is coming from above, so the normal map give the illusion of the bumps sticking out. It just looks a little odd, because it doesn't seem like you would find bumps like that on a wall.

Why do you have such sharp shadows in some of your screenshots, Raminator?

It looks so unrealistic, almost like doom 3.... otherwise it looks great. Razz

And btw how do achieve such crisp lightning? I've experienced with all of the settings of the different light sources, but it always come out so bland and dull.

-TwiiK
Not exactly Mr. Consistency, eh? Wink Anyway, to acheive that effect you need to lower the lightmap of the faces that the shadows will fall on and ramp up the brightness and constant of the spotlight. It's pretty easy, but it's effective.

Increase the brightness of all the lights by 150 and see how that looks.
Okay, I'll give that a go and see how it turns out.

Don't think the white texture in the middle screenshot is cutting it, try a more raw concrete look.
I think I know what you mean, but I'm not quite sure. I'll try changing to a smoother, more bland one.

Nope, it's brick/brickwall052e, one of the standard HL2 ones. I guess that the normal maps are like that so it looks like a hastily-built brick wall that's just been painted over at some point, and the bumps that stick out are bits of mortar squeezing out between the bricks. Either way, I quite like the effect. Wink

well, level design often comes up with levels that look similar to other levels, it just takes a certain level of patience to put up with it.

Hell my mpas look and sound like ravenholm, but thats because i use the textures and sounds from there. As for the lightmapped railings, i have similar in my map as well

But i can assure you, i did them back in July. Smile

Yes, I'm well aware it's an old effect and that I didn't invent it, it's just that I'm kind of getting sick of putting some kind of effect in my maps only to see it turn up in one of JeanPaul's a few days later.

Okay Raminator, we already talked about this. I love your work and sometimes take inspiration from your maps. And so, one day I asked you how to do the sharp shadows, being the nice guy you are, you told me. So what did I do? I used it in a map, no big deal. The more you make this a big deal, the more you show yourself as immature, and the more respect I lose from you. I dont want that from you Raminator. You are a great mapper and a nice guy, but making this into a big deal is a waste of time. I used a technique of yours in a map of mine, that should be flattering to you.
