If you compile a map it will generate a V19 BSP file. If you run buildcubemaps on this BSP file the engine will read the V19 BSP file and generate a V20 BSP file with the cubemap information included. Because this is now a V20 BSP file, bspzip no longer works (nor does my winbspzip, since it uses the same code).

Has anyone been seeing this problem or are most people
a) Not using custom textures, therefore no need to run BSPZIP
b) Not running buildcubemaps
c) Have a solution to the above problem that I don't know about (e.g. use pakrat instead, or something else).

Thanks,
Cannonfodder

Uhh... Thanks.

Edit: This could be related to OBE's problem.

Alexroyce has been having a lot of problems with BSPZip and cubemaps lately, OBE's been having problems with cubemaps, and then there's that cubemap bug in CS:S.

There's a new tool here which might work with v20, but I haven't had time to check it out yet.

And would this be why my displacement alphas are always inverted when I test. In hammer they are how I want in-game they will be inverted. Does BSP v20 compile displacement data differently?

Yep the problems really are a pain, as i cannot release a map due to them. As for that program, it currupts the BSP and gives a CRC error when loading up the map.

I thought about compiling, BSPZIPping and then building the cubemaps (as it should be fine then), but i get the blackness glitch after the cube's are built, so i cant even do that.

Maybe it's Valve's way to force more people to map for HL2:DM, since it's the only mod not affected... Idea

What do you mean by not affected? Can you build cubemaps in those maps with out the shadows getting screwed up?

Couldn't you just load up any map you need proper cubemaps built in hl2dm, and build the cubemaps in there? Or when you load them in another game after builing cubemaps in hl2dm they are still screwed up?
