HEV Suit
From HalfLife 2 Knowledge Base
The Hazardous Environment (HEV) Suit is worn by Gordon Freeman in both Half-Life and Half-Life 2, and serves to protect him from dangerous environments and enemies.
The suit's features include a flashlight, sprint mode, zoomed view and medical assistances such as anti-toxin delivery.
The suit is only able to protect Gordon while it has battery power. In Half-Life the suit was charged from various power points throughout the Black Mesa facility, while in Half-Life 2 the suit has been adapted to charge from Combine power points found throughout City 17.
In Half-life 1 it is called the HEV suit Mark IV. In Half-Life 2 Dr. Kleiner modified it to make it the HEV suit Mark V.
There are many small changes between the two versions, although the GUI has stayed much the same.
- Flashlight drains much faster than the Mark IV
- Flashlight is linked with the main HEV suit power source, rather than having its own devoted source as in the Mark IV; this means that using the Flashlight in conjunction with other HEV functions drains the suits power rapidly, ie Swimming underwater (Oxygen) and using the Flashlight.
- Sprint is an entirely new function of the HEV Mark V.
- Zoomed view is also an entirely new function of the Mark V.
