Talk:Creating Background Menu Map
From HalfLife 2 Knowledge Base
when i run my mod the image shows up while loading, then this checkerboard pattern replaces it until the background map loads. What could cause this?

I think you need to add a wide screen image as well.
Problem
I think I'm stupid, but...
As far as I got it I am to do following steps:
1.) create and compile a map.
2.) create these *.vmt and *.vtf files.
3.) set up the "chapterbackgrounds.txt" file for my specific name of the background stuff.
I got that. BUT:
QUESTION:
what does this vmt and vtf stuff have to do with my MAP? i DID put the vmt and vtf stuff and I SAW my personal background image as a menubackground (and while loading) but I DIDN't see my MAP in the background.
WHERE do I have to copy the *.bsp file to? DO I have to copy it somewhere?
---
I mean, if a menu background consists of TWO files (the vmt and the vtf file) than, what does this have to do with a bsp MAP? where in this game does a MAP gets involved?
PLEASE answer!
